Dirk Huysman

Long taken by the possiblities of sculpting light in three dimensions, I started blowing glass as a result of a christmas present given to me in 1995 by Mary Ann. She gave me a night course at Alberta College of Art and Design. It soon became clear that one course was not enough. Mary Ann joined me as we began a fifteen year run of night courses and later a weekly rental of a hot-shop in Chemainus. Finally 12 years ago we built our own shop and began real learning. We were a blowing team that was noted for our dance on the hot shop floor. The creation of glass continues now, though the dance is now a solo activity. I continue to make both functional and sculptural pieces and enjoy the magic of turning molten glass into a three dimensional object of light and form.
