Tom Ainsworth

I’ve been fortunate to spend the majority of my life working in the wilds of Coastal B.C. and believe that this has influenced the pieces I create.

I salvage and mill the wood here on Gabriola, working mostly with Broad Leafed Maple and its beautifully intricate grain patterns. The pieces are roughly shaped using chainsaws and angle grinders then refined with rasps, files, chisels and sanders and finally finished with mind numbing hours of hand sanding. I experiment with the addition of rocks, glass, copper, magnets and LEDs into some of my work.
